There’s something quietly magical about Guardian of the Green.Painted during the Oklahoma City Painting Palooza in August 2025, this woodland scene captures a moment of life most of us overlook — a squirrel perched on a mossy branch, framed by filtered light and soft forest tones. The painting reflects both patience and presence, a sense that nature is alive and aware of our watching.
This piece was created alongside artist Mark Aguilar, whose approach to acrylic painting is both deliberate and intuitive. Working with him reminded me how much storytelling can live inside color and texture. Where oils often invite blending and softness, acrylics challenge you to think fast, layering light before it disappears.
Also at the event, I met Marco Aguilar, a kind and deeply creative artist whose journey began with only a handful of supplies as a child. His resourcefulness and pure love for painting were inspiring to see — and a reminder that passion matters more than tools. His work, like his teaching, carries a spirit of joy and perseverance. You can learn more about Marco or take a class with him at MarcozArt.com or visit his Workshops & Lessons page.
Guardian of the Green is a tribute to the small protectors of the forest — those quiet moments of life that remind us to slow down, breathe, and listen to the hush between the trees.
