Ever since I picked up a brush, I’ve looked for subjects that are bold, magnetic, and full of energy — and few people embody that like Jason Momoa. While he may not have officially claimed the title, in my book, he’s easily one of the sexiest men alive. When the chance came to create a portrait of him, I knew it had to be something special — and it ended up becoming one of my most talked-about pieces to date.
🎨 The Inspiration and Color Choice
This painting actually began with a single bold decision: to use a striking purple background I’d been saving. I had this rich, gorgeous tube of paint waiting for the right moment — and when Jason’s portrait came up, I knew I’d found the perfect match. His bold personality needed a bold color.
I also tried to capture the quiet intensity I imagine he has off-screen — the kind of guy who could crack a joke, but also stare you down with pure focus. I’ve never met him, of course, but this piece is my take on what that balance of strength and soul might look like in paint.
🖌️ The Process
The painting is done in oils on a 24 x 24 inch stretched canvas and is signed by me, the artist. No special brushes, no fancy tricks — just time, patience, and a lot of staring at nose proportions.
I originally began this as part of a drawing project in 2024, where we were encouraged to sketch portraits freehand. That alone was a great challenge: getting the eyes, ears, and structure just right took serious focus. From there, I slowly built up the painting over a couple of months, adding detail, depth, and a bit of glazing to give it richness.
My favorite part? Working on it in a classroom setting — trading feedback, sharing laughs, and being inspired by other artists. That sense of connection is one of the biggest joys in creating art.
🖼️ Where to See the Final Piece
The finished portrait now hangs proudly in my studio. It’s often the first thing people notice when they walk into the room — and it’s definitely a conversation starter. Whether it’s a passing compliment or someone asking “Is that Jason Momoa?”, it never fails to draw attention.
And yes — it’s available for purchase, for anyone who wants to bring that same striking energy into their own space.
