Bouguereau Girl
Bouguereau Girl — An Oil Painting Study
Painted during Hope Blakely’s time studying with Marion Dutton in England, Bouguereau Girl is a portrait study after the work of William-Adolphe Bouguereau.
Using a restrained palette of raw umber and whites, Hope explores the subject in sepia tones. The limited colors bring attention to light, shadow, and the gentle transitions that give the portrait its form. Its warm, quiet appearance offers a different character from a full-color painting.
This is Hope’s hand-painted interpretation, created as a study of Bouguereau’s work. It reflects her continued exploration of traditional portrait painting and her experience learning alongside other artists.
