Doreen Drennan is an Irish impressionist painter born and raised on Achill Island in County Mayo. Now based near Doolin, County Clare, she creates atmospheric oil landscapes and seascapes inspired by the Wild Atlantic Way, the Burren, and the Cliffs of Moher. She studied impressionism at the National College of Art and Design and has maintained a professional painting practice for more than 30 years. Known for expressive color and texture, she works with brushes and palette knives to interpret the changing Atlantic light. Her work has appeared in exhibitions, commissions, and collections, including a painting commissioned for the cover of Maeve Binchy’s A Week in Summer. Her studio and gallery near Doolin welcome visitors and are surrounded by a garden that also inspires her art.
A personal connection: During a trip to Ireland, Hope and Howie Blakely visited Doreen’s home gallery. After exploring the welcoming gallery and its memorable stairs, they met Doreen in person and enjoyed talking with her. Their Cliffs of Moher painting was acquired from the artist; its back label and Doreen’s business card remain part of its provenance.
