Born Robert Stephen Ross on August 1, 1966, Steve Ross is the son of legendary painter Bob Ross—but he has long since established his own identity as a gifted and passionate artist. While his early years were spent quietly painting alongside his father (and even appearing in several episodes of The Joy of Painting), Steve’s artistry has always been distinctly his own—gentler in demeanor, deeply introspective, and profoundly moving in execution.
Those lucky enough to have attended one of Steve’s workshops know that watching him paint is a powerful experience. With every brushstroke, he brings scenes to life with remarkable ease—yet never rushes the process, always encouraging his students to slow down and enjoy the journey. Though he officially stepped back from public teaching in late 2022, his influence remains strong within the painting community, and his past students continue to treasure the lessons and memories he shared.
Steve values his privacy and keeps a low profile, with no official social media presence or public events at this time. But to those who’ve met him, painted with him, or simply admired his work from afar, Steve Ross is a reminder that great art doesn’t need a spotlight to shine.
